This Category 1 workshop is specifically designed to offer teachers new to the programme a solid understanding of the requirements of the course as well as the syllabus design options available to teachers.
The workshop will offer participants a detailed overview of IB pedagogy, a comprehensive guide to the Subject Guide and an exploration of the assessment criteria and components of the new Language A literature course along with opportunities for syllabus construction. During the workshop, participants will read samples authorised by the IB and engage in a discussion of practical suggestions and ideas for the preparation of students for their formal IB assessments.
In addition, the workshop will include a discussion of links to ToK, the research process of the Extended Essay and the significance of Approaches to Teaching and Learning. Participants, with the guidance and support of the workshop leader, will exchange perspectives, ideas and resources for teaching the course. Beyond the formal requirements, participants will have the opportunity to explore methods and approaches that support student engagement and create plans and activities they can easily incorporate in their classroom teaching.
Teachers of any language are welcome to register and contribute to the interactive experience of the workshop in a course that has an increased focus on enabling educators to design a course that will allow their students to succeed. The workshop leader has experience leading generic workshops and has a particular awareness of the differences among languages and literary traditions
